Virginia Run Helps the Homeless

More than 250 students, teachers, and parents from Virginia Run Elementary School gathered Monday, Nov. 25 to participate in a Help the Homeless walk. Every year the Virginia Run PTA arranges the walk to raise funds for Western Fairfax Christian Ministries. Joined by WFCM's executive director, Dorothy Fonow, the students walked a mile-long trail around the school. The goal of the school was to have 250 registered walkers and raise $5,000 for the charity. This was Virginia Run's third annual Help the Homeless walk.

"Virginia Run is a great school. They are very supportive of WFCM. Most of their community work is done for WFCM," said Fonow. Throughout the year, Virginia Run holds numerous fund-raisers to help raise money for WFCM. Last year, along with the Help the Homeless walk, the school hosted a clothing drive and a food drive. "I am very proud of my school and my community. It is wonderful to know that I am a part of such a great cause," said Principal Terry Hicks.
