Blood Giving Made Sweeter

Hollin Hall Pastry Shop provides treats for blood donors.

Four years of serving the community and three years of sponsoring the Red Cross Bloodmobile: Those are just two of the reasons that the Hollin Hall Pastry Shop was named as this year’s Business of the Year by the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce.

On hand during the Blood Drive that was held last week was Rick Neel, a fellow chamber member. He had the honor of drawing the winner of the 11 a.m. raffle, which turned out to be Dr. Farah Sadeghian. A different winner was selected each hour from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and each raffle winner won an 8-inch cake. As an extra bonus, if the winner was in the store when their name was pulled, the winner won four 8-inch cakes. Palermino said that more than 500 people had registered for the drawing. At least 30 people signed up for the blood drive.

Blood donors were also winners; not only did they feel good about donating blood, but they were also treated to a fresh pastry after giving blood.
