A ceremony for the dedication of a memorial playground in the name of Kylie Xiu Clifford, who died Dec. 19, 2003, from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome at 3 months and 19 days, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m., at Floris Elementary School, 2708 Centreville Road.

On Saturday, Sept. 11, the Herndon High School Band members will be distributing "Tags" throughout the Herndon High School district announcing the dates and times of their free concerts during the 2004-05 school year. They will also be soliciting funds to help support the award-winning band program. Donations help pay for uniforms, music and band instrument maintenance as well as an ambitious program of festivals, concerts, invitational performances and competitions. Matthew Carson Steinhoff of Oak Hill has recently been recognized as a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, a national leadership and honors organization at James Madison University. Sigma Alpha Lambda promotes academic achievement through community service, personal development and lifelong professional fulfillment. Additionally, he was named to the Dean's List at Madison for the spring 2004 semester. Carson graduated from Oakton High School in June 2003, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He is the son of Jeff and Wendy Steinhoff of Oak Hill.
