A fire broke out in a 12-story business tower at Plaza America Tuesday morning.
The fire started in the mechanical room on the fifth floor of 11710 Plaza America Drive. The fire department was called at 11:54 a.m.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded and was able to contain and extinguish the fire in 10 minutes. As a result of the fire, an air handler filter was burnt, causing smoke to spread to other floors. Because of the smoke, approximately 500 employees in the building were evacuated. The power in the building was turned off and businesses were closed for the day.
Lt. Raul Castillo, a spokesman for the county’s fire department, said that there were no reported injuries.
