For the eighth year, Reston Runners will be offering a Women’s Training Program to area women. Coached by women, for women, this series of eight sessions is a great way for women walkers and runners to begin or get back into exercise. The program meets on Monday evenings, starting May 2, from 6:30- 8 p.m., at South Lakes High School track.

The program promotes fitness in an atmosphere of noncompetitive mutual support and encouragement. A group of motivated Reston Runner volunteers, organized by Ann Deschamps and Anita Meginn, guides the sessions. Participants walk, jog or run with others moving at a similar pace. In addition to exercise, each session includes a brief presentation on topics of particular interest to women including proper walking and running form, nutrition, how to chose appropriate shoes and fitting exercise into a busy schedule. Participants chose between five different groups; walkers, fast walkers, walk/run, beginning runners and advanced beginner runners. Each group varies its workouts throughout the program. Participants are encouraged to move between the groups, as they are comfortable. One of the goals of the program is to prepare participants, regardless of pace, to walk or run the Women’s Distance Festival 5K race Saturday, June 25, at South Lake High School. Participants need to register before or during the program. There is a one-time $20 fee and everyone gets this year’s edition of the Reston Runners Women’s Training Program T-shirt. Register online or by mail — for more information visit http://www.restonrunners.org or call 703-437-FOOT and leave a message, or e-mail Ann Deschamps or Anita Meginn at wtp@restonrunners.org.
