Block Party Rescheduled

Rescheduled because of inclement weather last Saturday, the Herndon Block Party — a free event — is scheduled to be held Saturday, April 30, at the Town Green.

Initiated by the Herndon Visitor's Center and Connie Hutchinson, the event is more than a much needed fund-raiser for the center, it is also moonlighting as a goodbye party.

"The block party was an idea that came about after we threw a Mardi Gras party at our home," said Walter Bell, member of the band Just. "We needed a ... chance to say goodbye to Herndon in a formal way."

Bell said when Hutchinson came forward with the idea to host a free block party — with a suggested $3 donation — to benefit the visitor's center, the group jumped at the opportunity.

He added although the focus of the party will be to raise "much needed money" for the visitor's center, the money paid to the group through its performance fee will help with the group's upcoming move to California.

GATES OPEN at 5:30 p.m. and music —featuring everything from alternative, reggae and rock performed by five bands, including Just, carol bui, I-ternal, Laid Back and Rude Buddha — is slated to begin by 6 p.m. and play until 10 p.m.

In addition to live music the event will feature hot dogs, pizza, ice cream, sodas and beer and other beverages from local businesses at the Town Green.

Although free to the public, donations at the door are appreciated. The Block Party is presented by the Herndon Dulles Visitor’s Center as a fund-raiser for the center. Anyone interested in sponsorships or volunteering for the event should contact Connie Hutchinson at 703-437-6366.
