<cal2>The Arlington County Mental Retardation / Developmental Disabilities (MR/DD) Subcommittee meeting has been rescheduled for today at 6:30 p.m. on the seventh floor of the DHS building at 3033 Wilson Blvd. The discussion is to address budget priorities for the upcoming cycle, such as funds for contracting of behavioral support services, increasing reimbursement rates for nonprofit service providers, funding to provide services so that two MRDD consumers can move into apartments under the county's new supportive housing program, and a second case manager for MRDD children and transitioning youth. <cal2>Arlington Civitan sponsors a garage sale at the five-level parking structure on N. 15th Street between N. Quincy and N. Stafford Streets. Vendors rent spaces to display and sell their merchandise at $20 per parking space. Civitan provides a snack bar with hot and cold beverages, popcorn, hot dogs and snacks. Sale begins 7 a.m. After expenses, grants are provided to local organizations who work directly with mentally challenged and underdeveloped individuals, and scholarships and recognition are also provided to local youth. Bat Fest Arlington 2005. See live bats, go on walks to hear bats' echolocation calls and sample some foods that are pollinated by bats. Money Management for 9/11 Survivors. This is the second of a series of free workshops and support groups being offered by Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) to help individuals directly affected by the Sept. 11 attack on the Pentagon address their recovery needs. It is the first in the Getting Real series for young adults 17 and older, whose families were directly affected by the attack. 10 a.m.-noon at NVFS’s office, 10455 White Granite Drive, Suite 100, Oakton. “Lawns: Clean and Green?” This two-part course on the basics of fall lawn care sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension is designed to help Northern Virginia residents save time and money while protecting the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. The course is conducted by members of Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia Inc. The course focuses on both new and established lawns. A free soil test is given to each participant.
