Sterling after a four-year battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Ivy, and children, Susan, Garry and Karen. He his also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He served in the Royal Norfolk Regiment where he loved to play his bugle at Armistice Day ceremonies in England. He was a soccer coach and mentor to many young men in the area. He was a retired Washington Post compositor and member of the Columbia Typographical Union Local 101. A viewing was held Friday Dec. 16 and a funeral service Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Capital Hospice.
