Reckless Driving Instructor Found Guilty

A local driving instructor was found guilty of taking indecent liberties with a minor in a Loudoun County court last week.

George Larry Herndon, 54, of GLH Driving School in Leesburg, was arrested Jan. 13 after being accused of proposing inappropriate sexual acts and touching a then 16-year-old female during a driving lesson.

After a two-day trial, Herndon was found guilty of taking indecent liberties by a custodian, a class-six felony and assault and battery.

"What that means is he was in a position of authority, similar to a teacher," said Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kraig Troxell. "Basically, he was in control of the situation because he was hired as her instructor."

The jury recommended a $5,000 fine and six months in jail. He will be sentenced March 20, 2006.
