Van Landingham's Dogs

Marian Van Landingham may not be enjoying the heroic chemotherapy she is undergoing, but her dogs are in seventh heaven. A steady stream of visitors comes in and out, frequently taking the dogs for walks, and best of all, Marian is right there all the time, with a lap for them to climb in.

Marsha Stayger, an Art League teacher and Marian’s neighbor in the Torpedo Factory, calls frequently and walks the dogs.

Marian was interested to receive an email from Charles Carter, 11th generation of Carters to live in their historic property, indicating his support for HB 2078, Antiquities Act, a bill establishing the position of a State Archaeologist and strengthening the protection of Virginia antiquities.

Ken Plum is handling the bill in Marian’s enforced absence; it has passed the House, although with some of the protections removed after heavy lobbying by relic hunters, who roam historic properties with metal detectors.

Gallery West Show

Our neighbor Joanne Madison of Braxton Place has a picture hanging in the National Juried Show now on view at Gallery West.

Artists from all over the United States entered works in the show, which was juried by Deborah McLeod, who writes, “It’s just a preference for the plural how-ness of things rather then the more specific and singular what-ness of them.”

Congratulations to Joanne for being placed in this distinguished show. The piece, a monotype, is called Solar Flare and really catches the eye with a burst of beautiful yellow.

I saw Alexandria photographer Nina Tisara admiring the work on display.
