School Budget Goes to City

A no-fee health insurance option is added for school employees.

After adding $581,698 to Superintendent Rebecca Perry's $165,219,259 budget for the coming school year, the Alexandria School Board voted to adopt a budget that is now headed toward a review by city officials. The proposed budget represents a 5.67 percent increase from the current budget.

The City Council, which does not have a line-item veto over budget issues, is expected to vote on the budget on May 2. A public hearing on city budget issues is scheduled for April 4.
