Two students from the Loudoun Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC), Mikell Renee Weatherton of Ashburn, and Willy Tantoco of Herndon, have been selected to spend a week in Richmond during the 2005 General Assembly Session.

Both are students of professor Rosemary Pelletier in her political science course, "State and Local Government" at the Loudoun Campus.

Weatherton will be working with Del. Adam Ebbin (D-49). She returned to college after years of working and taking care of her family. Tantoco, who will be working with Del. Al Eisenberg (D-47), is a partner in a newly formed videography company.

The class is an active course that provides students with hands-on exposure to state and local politics. During a typical semester, the class features six to eight guest speakers. The class also tapes a television program, hosts debates, and drafts several prospective bills for the General Assembly. During the last gubernatorial election cycle, the spring and fall 2001 classes planned and carried out a statewide candidate debate and luncheon, which raised funds to send the students to Richmond for the ultimate first-hand experience.
