The 45 Safeway stores throughout Northern Virginia will be accepting donations for the tsunami relief effort. Customers can tell the cashier to add the donation amount to their grocery bill. The funds will be forwarded to the Red Cross and UNICEF. In addition to the in store find-raising, the Safeway Foundation will make a cash contribution to relief agencies and will match the contributions of Safeway employees.

Giant Food and Super G stores are collecting donating for tsunami relief through Jan. 22. All funds collected will go to the Red Cross and UNICEF.

The Loudoun County Public Library's Board of Trustees will meet Thursday, Jan. 20, 7:30 p.m., at the office of Library Administration, 908A Trailview Blvd., Leesburg. Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Claude Moore Recreation Center Saturday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m. Plans for the facility to be built in Claude Moore Park include an indoor lap pool, a leisure pool, locker rooms, a gymnasium, a rock climbing wall, an elevated jogging track and community meeting rooms.

The public is invited to the groundbreaking ceremony. Claude Moore Park is located at 21544 Old Vestals Gap Road in Sterling. Visitors should take the Cascades Parkway South exit from Route 7. Turn right at the second park entrance onto Loudoun Park Lane and follow the road to the sportsplex parking lot.

Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services is

accepting registrations for its All County Ski Trip to Whitetail Ski Resort. The trip will be on a teacher workday on

Wednesday, Jan. 26, and is open to all middle- and high-school students. The trip departs from Farmwell Station Middle School, Harper Park Middle School and Harmony Intermediate School at 6:45 a.m. and returns at 5:30 p.m.

Cost of the trip is $30-$80, depending on package selected. Lessons and equipment rental are available. Preregistration required, contact the Douglass Community Center at 703-771-5913 or e-mail dcc@loudoun.gov.

The Loudoun County Department of Economic Development is planning for the 2005 Farm Trail/Product Guide brochure and the Spring Farm Tour. The brochure will include a listing of Loudoun County farms that sell their products direct to consumers, and highlight farms on the Spring Farm Tour which is scheduled for May 21 and 22.
