The Scholarship Committee of The Ladies Board is seeking applicants interested in the nursing profession. Previous recipients and applicants are also encouraged to apply. The scholarships are awarded to students as supplemental aid. Scholarship amounts ranged from $500 to $3,000. The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation has designated Loudoun Healthcare Foundation the recipient of a $144,000 nursing education donation as well as a $20,000 donation in support of its Partners in Health program. The nursing education donation will provide resources for 28 licensed practical nurses to obtain registered nursing degrees. In donating to the Partners in Health program, the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation underwrites the Loudoun Healthcare Foundation fund-raising efforts used to support the ongoing and future operation of Loudoun Healthcare.
VirginiaÕs State Health Commissioner has approved Loudoun Hospital CenterÕs application to establish a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. The decision, after the application was originally filed Jan. 29, 2004 and subsequently opposed by HCA Reston Hospital, comes after an informal fact-finding conference held Oct. 21, 2004 and the commissionerÕs review of those findings.

Reach to Recovery Program. The American Cancer Society offers free services to women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo recent surgery. A trained volunteer who has survived breast cancer is available to talk with patients confidentially, provide helpful information and offer emotional support. Domestic Violence Group for Women. A 10-week group for women previously or currently emotionally, verbally or physically abused is being offered by LAWS (Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter). Stroller Strides classes -- a fitness program for new mothers and other caregivers, incorporating the stroller and baby in an outdoor setting -- are now available in Leesburg. The 50-minute workouts include power walking and calisthenics.
