NVCC Presents 50 Books/50 Covers Exhibit. Northern Virginia Community College's Alexandria Campus will display the best book covers of 2003, through Feb. 8, in the Tyler Teaching Gallery, 3001 N. Artwork by Arlington middle- and high-school students will be featured in the annual Arlington Public Schools Regional Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition on display through Feb. 13, at the Arlington County Public Library, 1015 N. Quincy St.

Sponsored by Arlington Public Schools, the Ellipse Art Center, the Arlington County Library and Arlington Artists Alliance, the juried exhibition showcases work created by Arlington students in grades seven-12. More than 700 pieces were submitted and juried. Students whose work was selected will receive gold keys at the opening reception and have their work judged for the National Scholastic Art Awards in New York.

The exhibition is free and open to the public during normal library hours-Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-9 p.m. Contact art education specialist Pam Farrell, at 703-228-6169.

A “Kindergarten Information Night” hosted by Arlington Public Schools will be held Jan. 31, at Washington-Lee High School, 1300 N. Quincy St., Arlington, from 7–8:30 p.m. Arlington parents with children entering kindergarten in September are invited to attend the countywide information night. The evening will begin with a general orientation session, at 7 p.m., in the Washington-Lee Auditorium. At the opening session, parents will receive information about the registration process, school options, extended day and other school-related services. Staff will also provide helpful tips on how parents can prepare their children, and themselves, for the kindergarten experience.
