The League of Reston Artists (LRA) presents its Annual Judged Photography Exhibition at the National Center Gallery of the U.S. Geological Survey through July 31. This exhibition features photographs by photographers from the metro Washington, D.C., region, and $300 in award monies will be presented at the opening reception by this year's judge, Joe Miller. During the reception, visitors will be encouraged to vote for their favorite work. The photographer of the work who receives the most votes will be awarded the People's Choice Award at the opening reception Wednesday, July 13, 5:30-6:30 p.m., in the National Center Gallery of the U.S. Geological Survey. "Evolution" is a an art exhibit that traces the progression of the work of Deborah Remmers from images captured on black and white film to the expressive use of color, line, shape and texture in her paintings and monotype prints. Local basketry artist Virginia Jenkins of Herndon will be featured in "Bushels of Color," a new exhibit at the Artists' Undertaking Gallery at 309 Mill St., Occoquan. The exhibit will open Aug. 2 and continue through Sept. 5. The gallery is open Monday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Call 703-494-0584.
The New York Subway, Chinatown, and Venice will be artfully displayed on six large murals in the exhibition "Scenes of Inspirations and Other Works" from Friday, through Friday, Aug. 26 in Reston. The Reston Chamber Orchestra invites area musicians who play orchestral instruments Ñ stringed instruments of the violin family, woodwinds, brass and percussion Ñ interested in performing orchestral music to join the orchestra for its annual summer reading sessions.
