Retired McLean Judge Dies

<bt>Judge E. Barclay Van Doren, 64, died on July 12 of Burkitts Lymphoma in his home in Cameron, Mont. He was Chairman and Chief Administrative Judge of the Department of Energy’s Board of Contract Appeals from 1985-2001 and lived on Arbor Lane in McLean from 1976 to his retirement to the Madison River Valley in Montana in 2002.

He served in the U.S. Air Force JAG Corps on active duty and in the reserves from 1966 to 1990, serving as Reserve Staff Advocate for both Air Training Command and Tactical Air Command. He received the Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service Medal.

He graduated from Harvard University in 1962 and The University of Michigan Law School in 1965.

Judge Van Doren is survived by his wife, Janet (who taught at Chesterbrook Elementary from 1990-2000); his son, Clay, and daughter, Dr. Cary (both graduates of Langley High School); and three grandchildren, Madison, Caelen and Hayden Van Doren, all of Denver; and his father, Emerson Van Doren, of Vero Beach, Fla.

There will be a memorial service July 27 at 2 p.m. at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church in McLean with the Rev. Gary Pinder presiding.
