The citizens of Alexandria are banding together to take back their clean air. Mary Harris who lives in an apartment building next door to a coal-fired power plant asks, "Why shouldn't we be able to breathe the same quality air as most other Americans?" A rally June 11, from noon— 2 p.m. at Market Square, 301 King Street, Old Town, will endorse the strong position taken by the Alexandria City Council to improve citizen's air quality. This rally is part of an an ongoing citizen campaign to tell the Mirant Corporation, the corporation which owns and runs the 55-year-old power plant in downtown Alexandria, that,"since you refuse to clean up, we want you to clear out." The rally and march for Clean Air will feature live music, an opportunity to make rally posters, speeches and a citizen's march supporting clean air.
