Accidents Snarl Fort Hunt Road Area

Motorists in the Fort Hunt area were tied up last week in two separate incidents that took place off Fort Hunt. Early last week, residents of Shenandoah Road came home to find part of their street cordoned off.

Fairfax County Police officers descended upon a van whose driver had driven it into the ditch along the road and abandoned it. It turned out that the men in the van had been pursued as possible suspects in the oxycoton thefts that have been occurring at local CVS drug stores.

Captain Mike Kline, commander Mount Vernon District Station, said that his officers had been chasing the vehicle when it hit the ditch. They caught the driver, but two other men in the van got away. They are still investigating the incident.

Later that week, it was the intersection of Fort Hunt Road and Collingwood Road that was tied up with the aftermath of a five-car accident. It is still under investigation, but it appears that a string of four cars were stopped at the red light at the intersection of Fort Hunt and Collingwood Roads; they were going east on Collingwood Road. A Ford SUV came upon the string of cars and did not stop, forcing those cars into the intersection upon impact. The last two cars suffered the most damage, and one person was taken to the hospital.
