Navy Seaman Recruit Patrick C. Rumsey, son of Paula E. Shank of Alexandria, and Brian F. Rumsey of Tucson, Ariz., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Taj V. Adams, a 1995 graduate of T. C. Williams High School, and the reserve Sailors of Naval Expeditionary Logistics Support Force (NAVELSF) Forward Group Oscar, based out of Williamsburg, Va., are currently in the middle of a routine scheduled deployment to Camp Patriot, Kuwait. Adams joined the Navy in August 1995.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Sam D. Bailey, son of Lorraine V. Loken of Alexandria and Kenneth J. Bailey of Charlotte, N. C., and the reserve Sailors of Naval Expeditionary Logistics Support Force (NAVELSF) Forward Group Oscar, based out of Williamsburg, Va., are currently in the middle of a routine scheduled deployment to Camp Patriot, Kuwait. Bailey joined the Navy in November 1995.

Army Pvt. Million S. Goitom has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Solomon S. Goitom of Patience Court, Alexandria.

Noah B. Gallahan has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year. The recruit qualifies for a $10,000 enlistment bonus. Gallahan, a 2004 graduate of Nelson County High School, Bardstown, Ky., has reported to Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., for active duty.

He is the son of Pamela Gallahan of Alexandria, and Douglas W. Gallahan of Evergreen Court, Bardstown.

J. Michael "Mick" Bednarek, Colonel, United States Army was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General on Jan. 4, in a ceremony at the U.S. Joint Forces Command Joint Warfighting Center, Suffolk, Va. Bednarek, a 1971 graduate of Bishop Ireton High School and 1975 military graduate of Old Dominion University is currently Commander, Operations Group, Joint Readiness Training Center at Ft. Polk, La. His parents, Colonel (Ret) and Mrs. Frank Bednarek (deceased) were long-time residents of Alexandria. Bednarek and his wife, Holly, have four children, Missy 23, Chris 21, Stephanie 17 and Joanna 15.

Paul Martin Riegert, major of the United States Marine Corps, of Alexandria was one of the 108 people from across the country selected as regional finalist for the White House Fellows Program. Visit www.whitehouse.gov/fellows.

Air Force Airman Tamla J. Wakefield has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Janice King of N. Armistead St., Alexandria, Va., and Marlowe Mings of W. 25th St., Brooklyn, N.Y. Wakefield is a 2003 graduate of T.C. Williams High School, Alexandria.

Army Pvt. Jason L. Felton has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Felton is a 2002 graduate of T.C. Williams High School, Alexandria, Va.

Army Pvt. William C. Babineau has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Babineau is the son of William Babineau of Bing Court, Alexandria, Va., and nephew of Valari Logan of Ashdale Place, Charlotte, N.C. The soldier is a 2003 graduate of Crossroads Charter High School, Charlotte.
