Amundson Kicks Off Reelection Campaign

Delegate uses Norwegian Independence Day to announce she’s running for another term.

Del. Kristen J. Amundson (D-44) likes to throw a big party for Norwegian Independence Day. She couldn’t do it last year because the General Assembly was in session.

This year, however, she did it with a bang. Held at the home of Karen and Ted Stone, the event attracted about a hundred people and served traditional Norwegian food and a standard buffet.

Amundson’s daughter, Sara Conrath, prepared lefse, a Norwegian tortilla, with fillings for guests as they gathered in the kitchen. Other guests mingled through the Stone’s home and enjoyed a beverage or a bite to eat.

Around 7 p.m., everyone gathered in the Stone’s foyer to listen to Amundson make Norwegian jokes and thank everybody for coming. She said that she had learned three things this year — that Virginia is the best managed state; that if you fight for a cause, you should fight for all people; and that it’s OK to get into a fight, as long as you’re fighting for what you think is right.

“I will be running for election and I’m looking forward to more battles,” Amundson said. “I’m proud of what I’ve done, but I’m not finished yet.”
