Abandon Smears

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

As a voter in the 41st District, I have been closely following the race between Dave Marsden (D) and Michael Golden (R) and have been intrigued by a blurb that has appeared in much of Golden's direct mail. Golden's mailings contain a blurb accusing Dave Marsden of stooping so low as to attack Golden's family. No explanation of what Marsden did or said was provided.

Finally, last week I received an advertisement from Golden's wife that charged Marsden with "having his political operatives call my neighbors and tell outright lies about my family".

Finally, I thought, an explanation.

Instead, the "explanation" takes issue with Marsden's characterization of Golden's positions on marital rape and guns in schools. There is not a single word explaining how Marsden supposedly attacked Golden's family.

Golden is obviously trying to plant a seed and provides no documentation whatsoever. This is worse than a cheap shot; it is a smear.

Golden should abandon the smears and tell us how this district is better off with a conservative's conservative, rather than a moderate who has support from elected officials from both parties.
