<sh>Veterans Day Ceremony

<bt>On Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11 at 12:30 p.m., Friends of the Great Falls Memorial will hold a memorial service honoring veterans.

Andrew Wilson, a veteran of the Vietnam War, will be the guest speaker.

<sh>Citizens Help Arrest Man in Tysons Corner

<bt>On Monday, Oct. 31, citizens helped police arrest a 27-year-old Alexandria man in the Tysons Corner area for abduction with intent to defile, according to a Fairfax County Police press release.

According to the press release:

At approximately 12:20 p.m., a woman was confronted by a man in the ladies bathroom of an office building located in the 8200 block of Greensboro Dr.

The 23-year-old Franconia-area woman exited one of the stalls and saw a man leaning against the locked exit door. The suspect assaulted her and she fell to the floor. He then got on top of her and attempted to take off her pants. The victim was able to unlock the door after struggling with the man and screaming for help.

A citizen who responded to the screams opened the bathroom door and was assaulted by the suspect. The door closed, several other men kicked the bathroom door open and freed the victim from the suspect.

The citizens held the suspect down until the police arrived. The victim sustained minor injuries.

<sh>McLean Business Owner Sentenced for Tax Crimes

<bt>On Nov. 4, Harold Kent Street, Jr., the co-owner and operator of a McLean swimming pool business, was sentenced for failing to file his income tax returns from 1999 to 2001, and “for structuring cash deposits into bank accounts,” according to a press release from Public Information Officer David Riordan, IRS Criminal Investigation.

Street was sentenced to 60 days in jail to be served in increments of at least 10 days a month, as well as four months home confinement, three years probation and $148,000 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.

Within 12 months and 1 day, Street must sell his property in Callao, Va., and use the proceeds to pay restitution.

Street and Stanley Zabel own KZA, LLC and Aquatics Unlimited, and do business as "Pool Doctor" at 1427 Center Street in McLean. Zabel will be sentenced on related tax charges on Jan. 9, 2006.

<sh>McLean High School Dedicates Grove

<bt>On Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, McLean High School will dedicate "Memorial Grove" to the school's graduates who have given their lives in the line of duty. This project was conceived by McLean High School and the McLean Trees Foundation. The dedication ceremony will be conducted by McLean High School with the participation of American Legion Post 270 and McLean dignitaries. Local residents who know of McLean High School graduates who have died in the line of duty should contact Demby Banbury, Director of Student Activities, at 703-714-5700.

<sh>Great Falls Library Features Local Artist

<bt>Throughout the month of November, the work of artist Jill Banks will be on display at the Great Falls Library. "Feast for the Eyes" is Banks' first solo show and features 30 still life and portrait oil paintings, including her first prize winning piece from the Torpedo Factory. Banks placed first out of 591 entries. Originals and giclee limited editions are available for sale. For a preview of the show, visit www.jillbanks.com. <sh>Library Accepts Credit

<bt>The Fairfax County Public Library now allows customers to use Visa or MasterCard credit and debit cards to pay for overdue or lost books.

"We have introduced credit and debit card payments for the convenience of our customers and in response to the great number of our users who have requested the service," says Jane Goodwin, Deputy director of the Fairfax County Public Library.

Credit card payments are accepted at all library branches, including the Access Services in the Fairfax County Government Center.
