The Virginia Cavaliers 65s prevailed over 292 teams to win the Huntsman World Senior Softball Games in St. George, Utah earlier this month. Started and managed by Great Falls resident George Hersey, the Cavaliers play in the age-65 and over bracket.

Marlene Malek, of McLean, was given Marymount's 2005 Alumni Achievement Award in recognition of her longstanding support of cancer research and her commitment to her alma mater and to community service. She is president of Friends of Cancer Research, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness and provides public education on cancer research.
