'Tis the season for Westfield Children's Theatre

By Natalie McLarty

This coming holiday season, the Westfield Theatre program will tackle children's theatre Dec. 22 at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. with its annual performance of the holiday shows geared for children. Tickets are $3. The program features the popular Dr. Suess story The Grinch, the student-written Meet the Maccabees, and other holiday tales that will entertain our youngest theatre patrons. The shows are all directed by Westfield seniors and juniors and provide a chance for underclassmen theatre students to take leading roles. Local area preschools and daycare centers, as well as students' younger siblings and any other local families are invited to attend.

The devious tale of The Grinch, based on the book by Dr. Seuss, is a staple of Westfield Theatre, and is always a favorite with children. This is the second year Meet the Maccabees will be performed. This play, which tells a fun and easy-to-understand version of the story of the eight nights of Chanukah, was written last year by current students Natalie McLarty and Brian Donohue and alumnus Ashley Cantrell, and is intended to educate kids about different religions and holiday celebrations in a fun and entertaining way. Other holiday shows, which are to be announced, will be included in the program. It promises to be a holiday treat for kids and parents alike.
