Wanted for Bad Checks

Local law enforcement is asking for the public's assistance in helping to locate a Loudoun man who is wanted

for writing bad checks for more than $8,000 to a local business, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Irfan Hashmi, 48, is a white male and is known to reside in the Leesburg and Ashburn areas. Both the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office and the Leesburg Police Department have issued warrants for his arrest for issuing bad checks this past summer, according to the Sheriff's Office. He is alleged to have issued a bad check at the Costco in Sterling Aug. 28 and again Aug. 29 in the amounts of $3,800 and $4,000. He is also accused of issuing a bad check at the Leesburg Costco Aug. 29. Additionally, Hashmi is wanted in Prince William County for check fraud, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact Investigator T. Ortwein of the Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475. Working together, investigators from Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, Prince William County Police Department and the Town of Leesburg Police Department were able to identify the suspect and are now attempting to locate him.
