Ashburn Man Charged with Murder

A former detective with the U.S. Marshals Service was indicted by a Loudoun County grand jury on first-degree murder, Thursday, Oct. 13, according to his attorney.

John William Ludwig, 51, confessed to shooting his wife, Karen Ludwig, 38 during an argument in their Ashburn home on July 4, reportedly in a video-taped confession presented at last month’s preliminary hearing.

Ludwig was indicted on first-degree murder and a minimum three-year sentence for using a firearm, Ludwig’s lawyer Robert Vernail said. The trial is set for Jan. 23-30, 2006. There’s a bond motion scheduled Nov. 1, at 11 a.m.
