Herndon Middle School students started their first month back to school with a hip-hop concert. The concert did not feature any of R&B's latest hit artists, but instead it showcased some of the science field's finest.
FMA Live!, a science education program, was performed for Herndon Middle students Sept. 12 during the group's 2005 fall tour.
The premise of the program is to combine science and other sometimes technical information into a learning program that will get the students' attention — music.
Named for Sir Isaac Newton's second law of motion (force equals mass multiplied by acceleration) FMA Live! uses professional actors, original songs, music videos and interactive science demonstrations to teach middle school students Newton's laws of motion and universal law of gravity. Created by Honeywell and NASA in 2004, FMA Live! has already reached more than 55,000 middle school students in nearly 100 schools across the country, according to a release from Honeywell Hometown Solutions.
The purpose of the concert is to not only teach about science, but also to generate interest in that field.
