Residents, parents and friends of the Northern Virginia Training Center (NVTC) in Fairfax conducted two major fund-raising efforts Saturday, Sept. 17. A Hurricane Katrina car wash in the parking lot was the brainchild of NVTC clients Brad Sokol and Adam Bertman, who were watching hurricane footage on the television and wanted some way to help. Sokol and Bertman, with a team of employees and friends, raised $574 for the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.
The NVTC also hosted its annual silent auction on Saturday, with proceeds helping to defray costs of therapy for clients, specialized equipment, camp scholarships, and other needs of the center. The auction, sponsored by the Fairfax Civitan Club and non-profit group Parents and Associates of NVTC, is in its fifth year. This year, the auction raised over $20,000, said Maureen Gregg of the NVTC.
