Fairfax4Horses, a non-profit organization dedicated to establishing public riding facilities on county parkland, will host a benefit horse show at Nokesville Park in Nokesville, Virginia, on Sunday, Aug. 13, to raise funds towards the development of the Laurel Hill Equestrian Center. The show is a schooling show for riders who are looking to build their experience in competition. Classes will range from beginner lead-line to hunter-jumper classes, and a range of gymkhana-type classes. Laurel Hill Park, now owned by the Fairfax County Park Authority, is a 1,600-acre parcel that was formerly the site of Lorton Prison. The 17th Battalion is planning a reunion from Sept. 14-17 at the Holiday Inn Historic district in Phildelphia. The reunion will emphasize a military theme, a memorial service and a golf outing. Contact Arlo Janssen at 703-281-3170 or adjanssen@aol.com.

The Chic Boutique is having a Best Tan in Town contest, which began July 15 and ends Aug. 16. They are looking for pictures that capture summer's best looking tan, which includes both sun tans and faux tans. Photos may be submitted through e-mail at info@newtoyou.net, U.S. Mail, or by hand to New To You at 108 W. Broad St., Falls Church, VA 22046. Include name and contact information. No photographs will be returned. The photos will be posted on the New To You website within five days of the contest ending, as well as in the store. First, second and third place prizes will be gift certificiates to New To You, The Chic Boutique. The first place winner will win a $100 gift certificate, second place will be a $50 gift certicicate, and third place will be $25. All photos must be in by 5 p.m. Aug. 16 and will be judged for the best tan by New To You employees. The winners will be announced Aug. 18.
