School Board Member Gives Birth

Eileen Cassidy Rivera knows how difficult campaigning can be. Her spring campaign for the School Board involved knocking on doors, raising money and asking voters for their support. And she did it all while pregnant, raising $4,860 and receiving 2,487 votes. Twenty-four days into her term on the School Board, Rivera gave birth to child she carried during her campaign to represent the city’s east end.

“We’re very excited,” Rivera said. “She’s our first girl.”

Eileen and husband Andrew have two boys: Kyle, 8, and Drew, 10. Carmen Jacqueline Rivera, who was born at 3:56 p.m. on July 31, is the newest addition to their home. The baby girl weighed in at 8 pounds, 14 ounces with a height of 20 inches.

“She’ll be the little girl of the house,” Rivera said.
