The deadline for the Leadership Loudoun Class of 2007 is Sept. 1. Leadership Loudoun is a nonprofit organization that engages current and emerging leaders to work together to serve the good of Loudoun County.

Participants in the program learn about the county's history, geography, political structure, economic climate and more; network and build relationships as they meet a variety of individuals who are active in business, government, nonprofit and education; develop new skills including leadership and team building; and make a positive impact on the community through development and implementation of a change project. Inova Loudoun Hospital will hold a Parenting 1*2*3 Magic course on Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 6:30-9 p.m., for parents wishing to learn effective parenting strategies and discipline for children ages 2-12, at the Lansdowne Campus at 44045 Riverside Parkway, Leesburg, in the patient education room. Blue Ridge Thunder Cloggers (BRTC) will offer beginner clogging lessons starting Sept. 7. The classes will take place near Purcellville, in a converted barn at the intersection of Routes 9 and 287. The Loudoun County Public Library will add to its early literacy programming with the series titled Babygarten, an educational curriculum for caregivers and their babies from birth to toddlerhood. The classes are used to teach parents how and why to read to their babies. All of the activities help babies with language acquisition and preliteracy skills. The program includes nursery rhymes and songs, books, parenting information and a session of play with educational toys. The Loudoun Cooperative Extension is offering a Virginia gardener short course, which will run throughout the year as a series of sessions Oct. 30 and Nov. 6. The course will be held at the Extension Office, 30 B Catoctin Circle, S.E., Leesburg, from 6-8 p.m., on those dates.

Participants can choose to attend one session or all eight. Cost is $10 per session or $65 to register to attend all eight sessions. Those who complete all eight sessions will receive a certificate of completion at the closing of the short course in November.
