Professional award-winning portrait painter, Joseph

Trigiani, will teach a two-Saturday portrait workshop Feb. 4 and 11, at the Loudoun Academy of the Arts in downtown Leesburg.

The workshop offers an opportunity to watch a portrait

painting come to life from the beginning stages to the finishing touches. From setting a palette to painting techniques, lighting and model posing, students will be able to ask questions as Trigiani works to create a likeness of his subject.

Professional artist and instructor Carmen Howell will teach an adult drawing class in February at the Loudoun Academy of the Arts in Leesburg. The class is for beginners and

those who want to improve their skills to advance to the next level.

Within a classroom setting, Howell provides individual instruction in drawing with pencil, charcoal, pastel and ink. Students will learn about perspective and space, line, form, shape, gesture, contour and drapery.

The drawing class is offered Wednesday mornings, from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., beginning Feb. 8 for four consecutive weeks; and Thursday evenings, from 6:30-9 p.m., beginning Feb. 9 for four consecutive weeks. Howell will also teach a drawing class for children Wednesday afternoons, from 4-6 p.m., beginning Feb. 8.

Practical Beekeeping for Beginners, evening weekly classes from the second week of February to first week of April. The class is for adults and children ages 9 and over. Crop Till You Drop Saturday, Feb. 25, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., at the Leesburg Senior Center. Consultants will be on hand to help motivate and offer advice. Participants will learn how to use stamps, punches and other tools of the trade. $30 fee includes individual table and light snacks. Box lunch from Tuck In CafŽ is available for $7. Fee does not include any scrap booking materials.

All proceeds of the event will benefit the Douglass Community Center Advisory Board, which helps support the activities and programs of the Douglass Community Center and need-based scholarships to students in the daycare and preschool programs.
