Theatrical Dance Students Take the Stage

Just before the winter holidays, The School of Theatrical Dance in Great Falls presented its holiday show "Winter Dances" at the Waddell Theater on the Northern Virginia Community College Loudoun campus. The concert was put on by the studio's Upper School, and included performances in advanced Ballet, Pointe, Modern, Jazz and Tap. The show, which was free, also featured guest artist Florian Rouiller.

Theresa D'Alessandro, director of the school – which recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary – says she has enjoyed seeing the students' progress through the years.

"I was most pleased about seeing how wonderfully all the students performed this time, and from year to year how they improve and become more mature and more professional," said D'Alessandro.

Approximately 30 students participated in the show which included scenes from "The Nutcracker" as well as a section called "City Sidewalks" which encompassed the tap and jazz portion of the show, and a section called "Carols" which featured the modern dance portion. Students began rehearsing for the show in early October.

"Everyone was very cooperative in coming to weekend rehearsals," said D'Alessandro.

The School of Theatrical Dance will put on another show in April of 2006.

"That will have more of our adult classes and more of our teen classes participating," said D'Alessandro.
