The Centreville High School Guitar Department will present "Gumbo Unplugged" on Thursday evening, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. The concert will include a variety of musical performances by CVHS students. Tickets are $5 for students and adults and $10 per family, and will be available at the door.
Chantilly High School is sponsoring its annual Chantilly Palooza on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Chantilly Palooza is a lip syncing/dance contest that students have to audition for. The students are judged based on their performance and win prizes.
School Based Technology Specialists from elementary schools in the Centreville/Chantilly area will be hosting an Internet Safety Seminar in conjunction with the Fairfax County Police Department and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Parents will be given information to help them work with their children to recognize dangers of the Internet, understand that people they first "meet" on the Internet should never be considered their friend, advise them not to give personal information online, and to report cyber bullying to a trusted adult.
Parents will have a choice of attending one of two sessions. The first will be held at Greenbriar West on Wednesday, Jan. 18 and the second session will be held at Stone Middle School on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. This seminar is hosted by London Towne, Virginia Run, Deer Park, Greenbriar East, Greenbriar West, Cub Run, Colin Powell, Brookfield, Bull Run, Poplar Tree, and Centre Ridge. Percussion Ensemble Performance. The Westfield High School percussion Ensemble, under the direction of John Kilkenny, will hold a performance on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Westfield High auditorium. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. Tickets are available from percussion students, and will be on sale on the night of the performance.

Parents are invited to attend a free educational program titled, "Teen Species: Up Close and Personal," sponsored by the Westfield Community Coalition and the Westfield High School PTSA, on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The event is free and is an opportunity for parents to learn how to more effectively deal with their teenager. This is the third year in a row that the coalition and PTSA have sponsored such an event. It will take place at the Westfield High School cafeteria. Fairfax County Public Schools has scheduled two teacher job fairs to recruit teachers for the 2006-07 school year and is searching for teachers and counselors with strong academic backgrounds and the passion to make a difference in the lives of their students. To meet the growing need for teachers, especially in the field of special education, separate job fairs for elementary-level and secondary-level teachers are planned. The job fair for secondary school teachers will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21 and the job fair for elementary school teachers will be held on Saturday, March 4. Both job fairs are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Oakton High School, 2900 Sutton Road, Vienna.

Students on the Patriot Team at Rocky Run Middle School are learning they can make a difference in their world at the age of 12 or 13. The students have established a community service project, called Communiteen, that supports the Northern Virginia community in several ways. The students are donating toiletries and assembling the donations into welcome kits that will be delivered to the Embry Rucker Shelter in Reston. Some of the students adopted needy children or families for the holidays, providing them with needed items. Others participated in park land or neighborhood cleanup projects.

Mountain View School in Centreville is planning a 10-year reunion/celebration. The school, located on Spindle Court, first opened its doors as FCPS’s third adult/alternative high school in January 1996 and graduated its first class in June 1996. Since that time, more than 1,000 students have graduated from Mountain View.
A committee comprised of staff and graduates has begun meeting to plan events. In the works are small monthly commemorations followed by a “family reunion” picnic event in June 2006.

Congratulations to these Westfield High School students who entered and placed at their local level of the PTA Reflections Contest.
