Welcome to Herndon, Jan. 21

The "Welcome to Herndon" event, a short program designed to acquaint new residents with the Herndon community, is Saturday, Jan. 21, from 10-11 a.m. The program provides an overview of town services and government, with an emphasis on ways new residents can get involved in the community. All residents of the town are encouraged to attend the event at the Neighborhood Resource Center, 1086 Elden St. in the Dulles Park Shopping Center.

Councilman Appointed to Committee

The Virginia State Corporation Commission Division of Utility and Railroad Safety recently appointed Town Council member Dennis D. Husch to the Damage Prevention Advisory Committee. This is Husch's second term on the committee. Each term is two-years.

The advisory committee reviews reports of probable violations of the Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act, including the process of marking utilities and recommends enforcement actions to the commission. The committee also addresses important issues concerning the damage prevention program in Virginia.

Husch has served as a member of the Herndon Town Council since 1994 and has been a resident of Herndon for more than 20 years. He serves as chair of the council's Level of Service Ad-Hoc Committee and has served on the council's Finance Ad-Hoc Committee. Husch also serves as the town's representative to the Transportation Coordinating Council, World Congress for Information Technology, and the YMCA Community Advisory Task Force. He also served on the Commonwealth's Joint Commission on Science and Technology committee. Husch holds a B.S. in Business Administration.
