Armstrong Amphitheater Dedicated to Teacher

Wendy Bowman, who died last year, was a longtime teacher at Armstrong

Armstrong Elementary held a ceremony Monday, June 19 to dedicate a newly-constructed, outside amphitheater in memory of Wendy Bowman, a long-time teacher at Armstrong who died in March of last year.

Bowman, a popular second grade teacher and Reston resident, had been an active member of the community. Bowman and her husband, George, had two sons who attended Armstrong.

During the dedication, staff, students and parents remembered Bowman as an effective teacher, a positive mentor and role model.

“She consistently demonstrated a positive and nurturing approach to her teaching, and she was always available to help individual students, guide other teachers, or meet with parents in support of their children,” said Shane Wolfe, assistant principal, in a statement. “She had an amazing way of bringing learning to life for children and brightening every day for everyone she would see.”

The Wendy J. Bowman Memorial Amphitheater was made possible through donations from the Armstrong PTA as well as community members, friends, and the Bowman family, who donated to a memorial fund designated for the project.

Convergint Technologies, a local business, also contributed funding and volunteered to assist with the landscaping of the project. The amphitheater is located on a slope behind the school’s library outside the window of Bowman’s former classroom.
