Clifton Man Indicted: Child Porn Charge

A Clifton man is currently being prosecuted by the federal government for possession of child pornography and, if convicted, could be sentenced to as much as 10 years in prison.

He is Dr. Charles Lamont Lynch, 44, and, last Thursday, March 9, he was indicted on this charge by a federal grand jury in Alexandria. Paul J. McNulty, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, announced the indictment.

Lynch is employed by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in Arlington, but authorities say he was apparently also engaged in non-work-related activities while at his desk. Court documents allege that he had been operating a "peer-to-peer" file-sharing program on a computer in his office at DISA, where he was the chief of the Internet Protocol Version 6 Transition Office.

According to a press release from U.S. District Court in Alexandria, "Agents seized a computer and over 1,000 CD-ROM disks when they searched Dr. Lynch's office. Child pornography was found in computer file folders titled 'Young.'"

Since Lynch is a federal employee, his case is being investigated by Special Agent Victor Sanguanboon of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gerald J. Smagala is handling Lynch's prosecution in court.
