<lst>Air Force Cadet Daniel A. Nugent has earned honors with placement on the superintendent's list at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. The cadet demonstrated excellence in military performance, academic studies and athletic and physical fitness. Cadets must have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average for the dean's list, a military performance average for the commandant's list, and a physical education average for the athletic's list for a semester. Nugent is pursuing a degree in bio-chemistry. He is the son of Michael and Joyce Nugent of N. Quebec St., Arlington.

Army Spec. Shamsuddin A. Al-Uqdah has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
