Kansas University student Ryan Colaianni, of McLean, a junior in journalism and mass communications and political science, placed sixth in sports writing in the Intercollegiate Writing Competition of the 46th Annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program. His winning story “Pounds of Performance,” was published Dec. 1, 2005, in the University Daily Kansan. Colaianni graduated from McLean High School. He is the son of son of Peter and Lisa Colaianni.

University of Mary Washington student Jay K. Sinha of McLean was inducted into the Cap and Gown chapter of Mortar Board, a national honor society based on scholarship, leadership and service. Sinha is a junior political science and pre-law major. He also serves as Student Government Association president and has been named to the dean’s list.

Sinha is the son of Shrikant Sinha and Rita Sharma of McLean. He is a 2003 graduate Robinson Secondary and Langley High School.

Emily Steakly of McLean, a junior history and women’s studies major at Syracuse University received the Chancellor’s Award for Public Service (CAPS). Steakly was recognized for her leadership work with Vera House.

Laura Eldridge of McLean a senior at Loyola College in Maryland was selected for inclusion in the 2005-2006 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges as an outstanding national leader and was recognized at Loyola’s annual Maryland Day Convocation.

Samuel Booner, son of Chris Booner and Penny Perry of McLean, recently received the Paul D. Richardson Award from Lynchburg College. The Paul D. Richardson Award was named in memory of a former chair of the Department of Sociology and is given to an outstanding graduating senior. Booner, a 2002 graduate of McLean High School, is a senior a sociology major.

Rafael de Castro Hurt graduated on Sunday, May 14, from Hampden-Sydney College. Hurt graduated with a B.A. in visual fine arts. He is the son of William and Cecilia Hurt of Bluffton, S.C. and is a graduate of Langley High School in McLean.

Webster Ye of McLean has received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John's College in Annapolis, Md.

Cadet Michael Philip Jaeger of McLean was named to the dean’s list at the Citadel in South Carolina during the spring semester 2005-2006. Jaeger earned a gold star for achieving a 3.7 or higher grade point average. Jaeger is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Winchester Jaeger.
