‘What About Boys?’

When Cappie critics come to review the The Madeira School's shows, the general consensus is "So...do they do all the roles themselves? What about boys?" Madeira being an all-girls school, we probably have one of the more challenging departments of the area. But mostly we grit our teeth and play the men ourselves.

Madeira's drama program is strongly based on getting deeply into the character; we have several meetings to discuss our characters as well as to do several character analysis exercises before actually starting rehearsals. Audiences are also constantly impressed with the professionalism of Madeira sets and costumes.

However, considering the title of our upcoming Cappies show, “The Boyfriend,” we might want to recruit some of the opposite gender. “The Boyfriend” is a high-energy musical mocking the overly surface and “cutsey” British musicals of the 1920s. Highlights include big charleston dance numbers, moving duet songs, and an ending (however predictable) that leaves you with such a warm and fuzzy feeling, you won't know what to do with yourself.
