"Peace Pieces" opens on Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Athenaeum Gallery, located at 201 Prince St., in Old Town Alexandria. This show includes all new works by local artist Marta Sewall, including a variety of mixed media pieces. The works abstractly depict patterns taken from the earth and various global cultures. Painter Jane Hahler’s solo-artist exhibit, Color in the American Townscape, will be shown in The Art League Gallery, in the Torpedo Factory, 105 N. Union St., Alexandria, from Nov. 9 – Dec. 4. A Woman’s Story Gallery will open a new exhibition "Reflections" featuring the art and journey of Israeli-American artist Regina Margarita Barker-Barzel at 1307 King St., Alexandria. The Alexandria Black History Museum hosts a new exhibit, Serving With Distinction: African Americans in Alexandria Public Safety, at the Museum, 902 Wythe St. The exhibit will be on display at the Museum through Dec. 31. Serving with Distinction honors the "trail blazers," black men and women who integrated Alexandria's public safety departments. The exhibition recalls the adversities African Americans faced and conquered; the personal and professional fellowship that emerged among the Fire, Police, and Sheriff's Departments; and the professional and personal involvement in community outreach they maintained during their careers. The Art League Gallery is holding an "Arts and Politics" exhibit from Nov. 8-Dec.4. The exhibit is juried by Jack Rasmussen. The works featured in this exhibit are by Art League members. The Lyceum opened an exhibit "Early Images of Virginia Indians" on view in the Coldsmith Gallery. The exhibit features period engravings produced from 1590 to the 1800s. The exhibit is open now and will be on exhibit until Feb. 11, 2007. The Lyceum is located at 201 S. Washington St. in Old Town Alexandria. The museum is open seven days a week, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays.
