Pottery You Paint in Ashburn will hold a Pottery-A-Thon Dec. 2, from 9 a.m.-midnight. Charities and community groups are invited to schedule a two-hour block for members and supporters to come in to create ceramic pieces. Pottery You Paint will donate 25 percent of the proceeds generated from the members and supporters of an individual organization, during that two-hour block, to that particular charity or group. To participate, an organization needs to schedule the time and provide proof of their nonprofit status, as well as their tax ID number. Participating organizations must guarantee a minimum of eight participants.

The UPS Store, 44050 Ashburn Shopping Plaza, has teamed up with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Through Dec. 23, customers will have the opportunity to purchase Toys for Tots donation cards for $1 each, benefiting the campaign in communities where the funds are raised.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, a nonprofit organization that fulfills the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, is selling holiday cards that can be personalized with a company name and logo, at no additional cost. AH&T Insurance expands its claims division with the recent hiring of Richard E. Hirschoff, SCLA. As the director of claims, Hirschoff will work directly with AH&T's commercial property and casualty clients to provide enhanced service in claims oversight including insurer litigation management monitoring, and general client advocacy and counseling. He will be located in AH&T's Leesburg headquarters office. Hirschoff has more than 25 years of experience as an insurance carrier claims professional with Travelers Insurance and CNA Insurance, among others.

Electronic Business has named EIT Inc. of Sterling to its Top 100 Contract Manufacturers list. The list was released in the September issue and is a worldwide ranking of electronic contract manufacturers.

Investin of Herndon plans to begin construction for the Prospect Business Center, a warehouse and office condominium facility in Dulles, this fall with completion expected to be by spring 2007.

Lydia Jane Failing, senior field human resources manager for HMHHost at Washington Dulles, Reagan National and BWI/Marshall airports and Leesburg Premium Factory Outlets, was selected as the first chairperson of the Dulles Area Transportation Association's Employer Council.

Jim Pates has been appointed marketing director of Griffin-Owens and Associates, which has offices in Leesburg and Ashburn. Pates started with Griffin-Owens in January as a commercial associate gent. He is a graduate of Guilford College and has more than 10 years experience in sales and marketing.

Atlantic Skyline recently completed construction and installation of a new exhibit displaying the upcoming new airport train system. Working with Redhead Companies of Ellicott City, Md., to develop a design aimed at promoting the new train system linking the main terminal with the concourses, Atlantic Skyline produced two 22-inch displays promoting the airport expansion. Scheduled for completion in 2009, the new rail system will deliver passengers from the airline gates in the concourses to the main terminal, eventually replacing the current "people movers" mode of transport.

The security checkpoint lanes at Washington Dulles International Airport have been moved to the west end of the main terminal's ticketing area. Passengers should follow the new signage highlighting Washington Dulles' newly located screening area.

Five Below, which sell merchandise to the teen and preteen market for $1 to $5, opened two new stores, including Sterling, with grand opening celebration Nov. 3.

AH&T Insurance, based in Leesburg, announces the hiring of S. Lynne Sorrentino, CPA, as its chief financial officer. Sorrentino joined the agency Oct. 2 and her responsibilities will encompass accounting and reporting, strategic planning and analysis, treasury, tax, audit and employee benefits programs.
