Army National Guard Spec. Jose A. Duran served as a member of a task force that consisted of transportation, maintenance, and medical soldiers, who deployed to southern California to support efforts of the U.S. Border Patrol and to enhance the homeland defense mission. Duran, a water purification specialist, is assigned to the 729th Brigade Support Battalion, Reistertown, Md. He has served in the military for four years. He is the son of Jose A. and Sandra L. Duran of Longwood Drive, Rockville, and is a 2003 graduate of Rockville High School.
Air Force Airman Anthony L. Whiting has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the nephew of Anthony Richmond of Rockville.
