School Notes

The deadline for submitting applications to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology for the 2007-08 freshman class is Friday, Oct. 27. Applications should be turned in to the students’ middle school or the TJHSST Admissions Office. Applications also may be mailed to the Admissions Office but must be postmarked by Oct. 27. There are no exceptions to the application deadline.

Applications are available at all public middle schools in participating school districts and at many private schools. At each middle school, a designated counselor has applications, brochures, and newsletters about the admissions process. Students also may obtain applications at the TJHSST Admissions Office, Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Twenty-two Langley High students have been selected for the Nordstrom Brass Plum Fashion Board at Tysons Corner Center and will appear as models in the store’s fall fashion show on Saturday, Oct. 28. As members of the store’s Fashion Board, the students, who are studying fashion marketing, receive information on available careers and hear guest speakers from the local fashion industry. They are invited to attend monthly seminars on topics such as buying, product development, sales, display, advertising, and promotion.

Starshine Theater of Great Falls is seeking student actors, ages 7 through 17 years, to portray the characters in its new production, “All The World’s A Stage — The Life of William Shakespeare.” Placement auditions and rehearsals begin on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the School of Theatrical Dance studios in the GF Village Centre. Performances will take place in late January onstage at The Great Falls Grange.

There is a speaking role for every participating student, with lead singing, dancing and action/martial arts roles for those interested. Limited spaces are still available for the seventh annual Holiday Extravaganza juried craft show, sponsored by the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology Crew Team. The Great Falls Art Center holds weekly art classes for all ages and stages at the Fouquet Art Studio on Walker Road in Great Falls. Children, ages 6 and up, teens, adults, and senior citizens, beginners and advanced may enroll for once weekly classes in drawing, oil painting, pottery, sculpture, and art history.
