The Volunteer Center is creating a special Volunteer Mobilization Leadership Team, comprised of trained volunteers, who will help run a Volunteer Mobilization Center, which serves as a processing point for volunteers when they arrive at a disaster site. The Leadership Team will work with Volunteer Fairfax staff to orient, train and place volunteers at the Volunteer Mobilization Center. Attend the next Volunteer Mobilization Leadership Team informational on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m., at the Volunteer Fairfax office, 10530 Page Ave., on the lower level.

Leadership Fairfax Inc. will honor regional community leaders at the 2006 Northern Virginia Leadership Awards Gala, Friday, Nov. 3.

Eight community leaders will each receive an award in one of the following categories: Regional Leadership, Community Partnership, Community Trustee Business, Community Trustee Individual, Community Trustee Nonprofit, Educational Leadership, Youth Leadership and Community Sustainability.

Bob Madigan, WTOP’s Man About Town, will emcee the event. This year’s gala, which is the tenth anniversary which will be held at the Westfields Marriott, Chantilly. The planned schedule is: 6 p.m., reception and silent auction; 8 p.m. dinner and opening program; 9 p.m., awards ceremony. Visit www.leadershipfairfax.org.

Volunteers for Change, a volunteer program for adults, features a flexible calendar of weekend and weekday evening projects to fit your schedule. The only commitment to make is to a one-time orientation at Volunteer Fairfax’s office in central Fairfax. Orientations will be held Saturday, Nov. 5 from 2 to 3 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 7 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Volunteers for Change also does orientations “on the road.” If you have a corporate, faith-based or civic group of 10 or more people interested in the program, we will bring the orientation to you.

Children’s Fall Flea Market. On Saturday, Nov. 18 at RCC Hunters Woods volunteers are needed for any segment of time from 7:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Pizza will be provided to volunteers after the event.
