On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Herndon High School Band and Guard members will distribute "Tags" throughout the Herndon High School District, which will contain information concerning the dates and times of the Herndon Band's free concerts during the 2006-07 school year. The students, dressed in their uniforms, will solicit funds door to door to help support their award-winning band program. Band members will also perform during the day at the Herndon Safeway and the Elden Street Giant. In October, the band will compete in the Bands of America Super Regional Championships in Atlanta, Ga. This is a top rated competition and Herndon is the only band from Northern Virginia that will be participating. The Fairfax County Police Department, in the interest of promoting a safe school year, will launch its "Start of School" enforcement campaign. Additional officers will be used to enforce all traffic laws including speeding in school zones, passing stopped school buses and failing to yield to pedestrians. Officers may ride on school buses to identify and summons motorists who break the law. They will be driving both marked and unmarked police cruisers and alternative vehicles. All violators will be ticketed as police continue to promote the safety and welfare of both children and adults.
The cost of a student lunch at Herndon High School has increased to $2.10. For those hungry students, a second entrée cost has risen to $1.35. If a transfer student (from Herndon Middle or any other FCPS school), the lunch balance needs to be transferred to Herndon High.
Herndon High School will have a new Bell Schedule this year so that they can implement something called "Stinger Time." Stinger Time is a 34-minute block of time that will meet every day following first/second period. This Stinger Time will allow students a chance to catch up on missed work, seek additional academic support from teachers, work on long-range assignments, and more. Attendance will be taken.
