Parents and associates of the Northern Virginia Training Center along with the Fairfax Civitan Club (both all-volunteer, not-for-profit organizations) will host fund-raising auctions (both silent and live) on Saturday, Sept. 9, beginning at 8 a.m. in the NVTC gymnasium located at 9901 Braddock Road, at Burke Station Road, in Fairfax. Money raised will purchase items for residents with severe and profound mental retardation.
The doors will open at 8 a.m. when all items will be available for viewing, and the silent auction bidding will begin. The live auction will begin promptly at 10 a.m. There will be a break at noon to determine the silent auction winners, with the live auction resuming at 12:30.

The American Red Cross Blood Services Region is seeking volunteers to assist its blood collections staff at blood operation sites in and around Washington, D.C. Red Cross volunteers assist with providing a high level of customer service to donors during shifts of approximately five hours. A commitment of two blood drives per month is requested. This position is offered to people who are at least 14 years old, have transportation, and weekday, daytime availability. Specific responsibilities include greeting donors and providing them with essential reading materials, serving refreshments, and observing donors for post-donation reactions to giving blood.
