ANIMAL CRUELTY Found
Police continue to search for the owner of an “emaciated” yellow Labrador-Collie mix dog found locked in a portable toilet Saturday, Sept. 2 after a concerned citizen heard the dog barking.
At around 3 p.m. inside a toilet at the Baron Cameron Park, a local resident located the dog and called the police. Animal control officers rescued the female dog, which police say was dehydrated, covered in flea dirt and suffered from anemia and undernourishment.
The dog was taken to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter where it is recuperating.

FARMERS' MARKET Market Relocates Sept. 16
The Reston Farmers Market will relocate this Saturday, Sept. 16 to make room for the annual Multicultural Festival at Lake Anne Village Center. The market will open as usual from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m., but will be set up around the corner in the parking lot near the Lake Anne Professional Building off of North Shore Drive. Walkers to the Market are instructed to go to the Washington Plaza Ecumenical Baptist Church and walk up the stairs to the left of the church, which lead to the parking lot of the market’s temporary location. The market will return to its regular location at Lake Anne Village Center the following week and until the season ends on Nov. 4. RESTON AT Home Tour
The Reston Historic Trust will present the 5th annual Reston At Home Tour on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. This year’s tour focuses on the arts and features five private homes of art collectors, artists, and musicians. The tour, which costs $20 in advance, is self-conducted.
Tickets are available at the Reston Museum at Lake Anne Village Center, 1639 Washington Plaza, or at the Greater Reston Arts Center at Reston Town Center, 12001 Market Street. On the day of the tour, tickets will cost $25. Passes include the tour map, information, and home illustrations by Pat Macintyre. All proceeds from Reston At Home benefit the Reston Museum.

A RESTON License Plate?
The Reston Citizens Association, the local group pushing for town status, has also begun pushing for a Reston license plate. To create a Virginia license plate, the Department of Motor Vehicles requires a minimum of 350 purchase commitments. Those interested in ordering a Reston license plate can send an email to vaclav88@hotmail.com with "Go Reston VA License Plate" in the subject line. This is not a commitment to buy the license plate, but a measure of those that may be interested.
SEEKING NOMINATIONS for Awards
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Steering Committee invites nominations for the 2007 Community Service Awards, which will be presented Monday, Jan. 15, 2007.

JOIN HOLIDAY Parade
Organizers of the 16th annual Reston Holiday Parade is looking for parade participants. This year’s parade, with the theme of “Ring in the Season at Reston Town Center,” takes place Friday, Nov. 24, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Interested groups will have the opportunity to join 1.5-mile parade route with an assortment of Macy’s style balloons, musical groups, dancers, antique cars and Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Boys in grades one through five who live in south Reston are invited to attend open houses in September to learn more about Cub Scouts. "Join Scouting Nights" will be held at Hunters Woods Elementary School on Sept. 12 and at Terraset Elementary School on Sept. 21, both at 7 p.m. A Cub Scout membership table will be part of Back to School Night at Sunrise Valley School on Sept. 21.

PLUM SETS Transportation Series
Del. Kenneth R. "Ken" Plum will host a month-long series on transportation issues on his weekly television program, "Virginia Report," on Reston Comcast Channel 28. "Virginia Report" is shown every Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. and repeated every Wednesday at 10:30 p.m.
During the next four weeks, Plum will have transportation-related conversations with state Sen. Janet Howell on Sept. 12 and 13 to discuss the General Assembly's upcoming special session on transportation, Bob Chase of the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance on Sept. 19 and 20, Dennis Morrison, district administrator for the Virginia Department of Transportation on Sept. 26 and 27, and Patty Nicoson of the Dulles Corridor Rail Association on Oct. 3 and 4. MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL
The 2006 Reston Multicultural Festival will be held on Sept. 16, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., at Lake Anne Plaza.
The Festival welcomes new and returning performers to the World Stage this year. In addition to this year’s performances, the Festival features children's activities, a global fashion show, fine art exhibit, diverse foods, and arts and crafts. RCC: LOOKING for Candidates
This is the final week the Reston Community Center will accept candidate applications from residents of Small District 5 to run for a seat on the RCC Board of Governors. Board members set RCC policy, adopt the operating budget, attend monthly public meetings, chair committees and represent the center at community functions.

‘MARRIAGE Amendment’ Forum
A coalition of religious organizations called the Reston Ministerium will sponsor a public forum this month on the “marriage amendment” on the Virginia ballot in November.
The event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 17, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the United Christian Parish, 11508 North Shore Drive, in Reston. The panel will be lead by Del. Ken Plum (D-36), state Sen. Janet Howell (D-32), who have both campaigned against the amendment. Howell said, if passed, the amendment could put the health insurance and domestic violence protections of all unmarried couples at risk.
Others panelist will be Claire Guthrie Gastanaga, former Virginia assistant attorney general; Laura Robertson of Equality Virginia, a gay-rights advocacy group; and a representative of the Capital One Financial Corporation in McLean. Childcare will be provided.
The Rev. Debra Peevey, who has chaired the Reston Ministerium for the past eight years, has urged members of the religious community to get involved in what she calls a human rights issue.

The Reston Association will be host District Meetings this fall in each of the four voting districts: Lake Anne/Tall Oaks, Hunters Woods/Dogwood, South Lakes and North Point.
According to the Association, the purpose of the meetings is to reconnect with members, discuss topical issues, hear comments and answer member questions. Each district’s Board of Director will lead their respective meetings with a "Desserts & Discussion" theme.
