Moving, Munching for the Cause

The Walk to Fight Breast Cancer invites the community to participate in its 2nd Annual Dine Out and Shop for the Walk to Fight Breast Cancer on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Several Alexandria restaurants and stores will be donating a portion of the proceeds from their sales to the Walk, which is scheduled for Oct. 21. Donations are a percentage of the entire day’s proceeds unless otherwise indicated.

In Old Town, Arts Afire, 1117 King St., 10 percent; Cafe Salsa, 808 King St., 15 percent; Circe, 123 N. Washington St., 8 percent; Old Town Deli, 109 N. Washington St., 20 percent of proceeds from lunch; 100 King Restaurant, 100 King Street, 15 percent of proceeds donated from dinner; Pat Troy's Ireland's Own, 111 N. Pitt Street, 15 percent; Romance for the Senses, 1102 King St., 25 percent; Stardust Restaurant and Lounge, 608 Montgomery St., 20 percent.

In the West End, Hana Tokyo, 4603 Duke St., 50 percent of proceeds donated from lunch; Mango Mike's 4580 Duke St., 10 percent of proceeds donated from dinner; Tempo Restaurant, 4231 Duke St., Alexandria, 25 percent of proceeds donated from lunch, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and dinner 5:30 -10 p.m.; Zig's, 4531 Duke St., 10 percent.

In Del Ray, Artfully Chocolate, 116 E. Del Ray Ave., 10 percent; Bombay Curry Company, 3110 Mount Vernon Ave., 10 percent; Caboose Cafe & Bakery, 2419 Mount Vernon Ave., 15 percent; Del Merei Grille, 3106 Mount Vernon Ave., 10 percent; Hector's Place Ristorante, 3112 Mount Vernon Ave., 20 percent of proceeds donated from dinner; Mancini's Cafe, 1508 Mount Vernon Ave., 15 percent; Monroe's An American Trattoria, 1603 Commonwealth Ave., 15 percent of proceeds donated from dinner.

Also in Del Ray, Taqueria Poblano, 2400B Mt. Vernon Ave., will donate proceeds on Monday, Oct. 2, as the restaurant is closed on Tuesday, 25 percent of proceeds from lunch and dinner.

The 13th Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer, presented by American Society of Clinical Oncology, Safeway Food & Drug, and Mix 107.3, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 8 a.m. Walkers can choose from a 1.5K/3.5K/5K walk or run, and the route is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Registration and parking will be located at AMC Hoffman Center Theatres, with free DASH shuttle service to the Walk route. Registration costs $25 for adults and $10 for children, if pre-registered by Oct. 18. On-site registration is $35. Walkers can visit www.alexcancerwalk.com, to fill out a registration form to participate in the event.

All proceeds from the Walk support the Alexandria Breast Cancer Walk Fund, which has provided free mammography screenings at Inova Alexandria Hospital to more than 2,200 women since its inception in 1994. All participants are encouraged to collect pledges to support the Walk fund, and prizes will be awarded for the top fundraisers in the categories of individual, youth, and team. Volunteers are also needed to help out on the day of the event.
